- Please follow the instructions provided with the OTO ART ear.
- Use the provided resin ear to create your masterpiece.
- Return your ear to the OTO ART Committee by January 15, 2011.
Who pays shipping?[top]
- The OTO ART ear sculptures will be shipped to participating artists at no cost. We pay to ship the ear to you in a standard US or International flat rate postage box. If you would like to have the ear arrive more quickly, you may pay for express shipping.
- Return shipping is not covered. A return mailing label is provided. You may use the provided box.
- Ear sculptures must be properly packed and shipped. The OTO ART Committee is not responsible for any damages incurred in shipping.
- Insurance for ear sculptures in transit is optional and is the responsibility of the individual.
- The OTO ART Committee is responsible for delivery and display of the ear sculptures in Sarasota.
Are there any restrictions on what I can create?[top]
We don’t want to crimp anyone’s creative style, but there are a few rules:
- All styles are welcomed and indeed encouraged.
- Forms can extend past the edges of the ear sculpture by 6 inches/15 cm. Any more than that and it will interfere with displaying the ear. You will be responsible for a larger shipping box and insuring it against damage.
- If you want to create a stand for the ear, the total height of the stand and ear should not exceed 18 inches/45 cm.
- Use common sense when using organic material since it decomposes and can attract insects.
- Please consider possible shipping damage when using fragile materials.
- Don’t attach anything or use materials that are not allowed to go through the postal services.
- Last but not least, we are extremely tolerant of creative expression. However, we retain the right to refuse any ear sculpture that is in the opinion of the OTO ART committee offensive, overtly political, defamatory, inappropriate or hateful.
Can photographers and digital artists participate?[top]
- Yes. Images printed on another material and attached to the resin ear sculpture is acceptable.
- The same rules apply to photographs that apply to traditional paint and other mediums.
Can I show more than one piece at a time? Can I create a series?[top]
- Yes. Artists may put in more than one entry; however, a separate entry form and fee must be included with each OTO ART ear. If you are submitting more than one ear for the exhibit, please let us know if they are to hang together.
When is the deadline?[top]
- As soon as you finish your masterpiece, please send it to the address included in the submission package. It will be photographed and put on the website. The official deadline to be included in the Exhibit Catalog is January 15, 2011.
Can I reproduce the OTO ART ear sculpture?[top]
- No. The OTO ART ears are copyrighted by the WSEF and cannot be lawfully reproduced. Since we are doing this project for charity, we don’t want these sculptures duplicated.
- The OTO ART ears are the property of the Walter Spohn Educational Fund (WSEF). Reproduction of this sculpture is strictly prohibited outside of the guidelines of the OTO ART Charity Art Auction and Exhibit.
Who retains copyright of the design/transformation of the ear sculpture?[top]

- By participating, you agree that the OTO ART ear sculpture is the property of the WSEF, and you agree to donate the copyright to the WSEF. Therefore, you relinquish any rights to monetary compensation to the WSEF and Vesalius Trust. This includes money made from the sale/auction of the ear sculpture, sale of the exhibit catalog, or sale of future promotional items.
